MAURICIO ESPINOSA
Founding Principal & Managing Architect

My Organic Architecture was born in Oregon. At age 8, I remember walking to a hardware store with my father, confused about greenhouse gases and why we were not doing enough about them. I feared losing the world; it made no sense. I decided it was my life goal to do something about it, so I began researching. I studied architecture at the University of Oregon, became the youngest design director for eco-architect Behnisch, and went on to University College London’s Bartlett School, where I published research on human and nature interactions. I then created Burgeoning to focus on poetry, light, and order.
Part of changing the world is being part of it: having lived in nearly half its continents, I observed different ways of interacting with one’s environment and society. These experiences drive me to find alternative solutions to commonplace issues. It flushes out blinkered viewpoints and reminds us that the world is diverse and exceedingly creative. It frees us from clinging to styles and molds.
Architecture is responsible for nearly half the carbon output on the planet. This means we must work together now for Organic Architecture. It is accessible to all. Organic Architecture is a mirror of our lives and environment.
