Marriott Hotel, Bazhou, is inspired by a simple credo: Through cultural topology, we combine the context of the Shengfang ancient town and the virtual & real relations in the inner space of the courtyard. We are inspired by patterns of Chinese gardens, and we transform these classical shapes into the identity of the hotel.

The design is envisaged as a sustainable development model of the future where we rethink the hospitality experience for the hotel. The idea of a harmonious relationship between humans and nature is exemplary in Chinese gardens. The hotel provides multiple publicly-shared gardens based on the courtyard design. By introducing nature into the building, materials and field perceptions combine within the courtyard. In this state of virtual and real interaction, these courtyards blur the boundary between humans and nature.

Through the study of the mullion patterns of Chinese gardens, we developed a unique set of patterns to represent the hotel. It can let the hotel integrate people and nature inside, while highlighting its uniqueness outside.

In this journey to trace the ancient town, the combination of natural and poetic regional elements is introduced into this hotel. This marks Marriott's innovation in the cultural context and presents unlimited possibilities for future development. This also represents our thoughts and expectations for future hotels.
